CERAD - Central European Weather Radar Network

History

In 1990, Austrian Meteorological Institute granted the elaboration of the project of Central European Weather Radar Network (CERAD) by Institute of Communication and Wave Propagation, Technical University Graz, Austria . At first time CERAD included radars from Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Poland and Czechoslovakia. Germany, Swiss and Italy were invited to join CERAD network in next years.

Software for encoding and decoding of radar data in WMO code FM-94 BUFR was developed in Technical University Graz. This software is used Europeae-wide in the frame of GORN (Liaison Group for Operational European Weather Radar Networking). Production of CERAD composites began in Vienna in 1995. Radar composites, containing data from D, A, CH, CZ, SK, SLO, CRO, PL and in future from Northen Italy, are distributed with time step of 30 minute using GTS in WMO code FM-94 BUFR.

From Czech Republic : PACZ21 OKPR (every 10 min.) - Czech Republic Radar Composite
Into Czech Republic: PAEU21 LOWM (every 30 min.) - Central Europe Radar Composite
