Basic Information

Czech Hydrometeorogical Institute operates the only full-area groundwater monitoring network in the Czech Republic. Detailed information about types of observational objects and the monitoring network and network reconstruction withing the ISPA/FS  project are available in the monitoring network part (in Czech only). Administration of the network is in commission of CHMI branch offices (see organizational chart). The department is concerned with methods in groundwater field and to major working objectives belong:

  • Measurement methods standardisation, including measurements of ground water levels, spring water yields and spring water temperature
  • Methodical guidance of CHMI branch offices in primary data processing. Primary data processing covers control and correction of errors in observed data, pointing out the biased regime and preparation the data for handover to database.
  • Secondary data processing - including evaluation of ground water regime related to hydrogeological structures (hydrogeological zones) and to areal landscape units generally represented by river basins.
  • Groundwater balance evaluation by means of baseflow calculation, which captures the dynamical part of groundwater sources, or estimation of ground water resources in balance units (hydrogeological zones). Balance units are considered further as parts of total hydrological balance.
  • Administration of groundwater monitoring network documentation
